Solar Eclipse FAQ

Eclipse Resource Guide

We will have a modified schedule to ensure student safety.

Cimarron Avenue Elementary Plan:

Solar Eclipse – Monday, August 21, 2017

  • All students MUST be inside classrooms by 9:00
  • The Eclipse will begin at 9:06 a.m.
  • The Eclipse will end at 11:44 a.m. (with maximum coverage at 10:21 a.m.)
  • NO classrooms should be outside during the Eclipse (9:06-11:44am)
  • LAUSD will stream live coverage of the Eclipse - @LAUSD.net
  • We will have an Inside Recess during the regularly scheduled times
  • Yard supervision/TA staff will monitor campus to assist with students who need to leave the classroom to use the restroom or any other reason
  • Students need to be reminded NOT to look at the sun, and if need be, adults should shield students from looking at the sun

Special Lunch Schedule

Let’s remember that although this is a very special event, looking at the sun is very harmful, especially to those with light colored eyes, and youth eyes still growing and developing.
